Brief history of car:
The Carlton Commando was introduced to the kit car scene at a time when Dutton where in their prime and doing well with their utility vehicle the Dutton Sierra. Carlton got a piece of the pie with the Commando. It did quite well too, selling several hundred although they are quite a rare sighting these days.
Based on a Ford Cortina (you can see this in the use of the Cortina doors and Cortina windscreen), the Commando was a big, rugged vehicle. Generally quite poor fibreglass work, ripply with big shut lines, overall appearance was a bit tatty.
Ford Cortina base made it practical and cheap to put together and maintain, for a bit of extra ooomph the Cortina also included the Ford Cologne V6.
